Safe Essential Oils for Kids and their Benefits!

If you are looking for safe essential oils for kids, then you are are the right place.

There are several essential oils for children you can utilize to help your kid. But, knowing the safest options for use around your child is a must.

I am happy to share with you about not just the best essential oils but the safest ones to use when around your children. I will also share some of the ways they can benefit your child.

Safe essential oils for kids

But before we go into all that, it is important to note that even though there are a lot of benefits and uses of essential oils, there are also some dangers and risks associated with essential oils.

So, you need to be very careful when using essential oils for your kids. Avoid using essential oils that are too strong for children and always use the right dosage and dilution ratios.

And because children’s skin is so sensitive and still fragile, most experts suggest to NOT use essential oil topically for kids under 5 years old.

For children over the age of 5, when topically using a new essential oil, it is important to do a skin patch test prior to using! (You will find this information at the bottom of my article on dangers and risks associated with essential oils.)

The recommended dilution rate for kids 5-12 years old is 1%. This translates to about 5-6 drops of essential oil to every 1 oz/30 ml carrier oil. And just 1 drop of essential oil to every teaspoon carrier oil.

Natural Sleep Aid

Getting your children to go to sleep at night is a struggle. Many parents face the hyperactive child asking over and over again for a drink, another story or the TV left on at night.

A diffuser on the nightstand is a great way to make this work. I’ve already shared about my favorite essential oils for a good nights sleep, but below are our picks that are safe for kids.

Lavender has long been known for its sedative properties. It is by far, the most popular choice for use when wanting a better nights sleep.

Cedarwood is another excellent option for help in relaxation. It is often used alone or in a diffuser blend to aid with sleep.

Chamomile is a great option to help relax and soothe at bedtime. A few drops in a bedside essential oil diffuser or as part of the bedtime lotion routine on your little one can make a huge difference.

Calming Restlessness and Anxiety

Calming down your little one when they are upset is a must. Following tips for safely using essential oils will help both of you have a better day.

I’ve shared some of the dangers and risks of essential oils before, but there are far more benefits. One of them happens to be the natural aromatherapy benefit of calming when anxious or upset.

Lavender makes this list another time due to the ability to calm and relax. Using this topically in a carrier oil is a great way to help a fussing child calm and relax.
