Best Essential Oils for Boils (Abscesses) to Relieve Your Pain and Help with Healing!

Aren’t you thankful that there is an EO for everything! This means, there are essential oils for boils. If you’ve ever had a boil before, you would know that it is very painful and discomforting.

Best Essential Oils for Boils (Abscesses)Truth be told, having a boil is not a fun experience at all. I know that because I have had it a couple of times in the past.

A boil is a pus filled bump in the skin. It looks similar to a pimple – large yellow bump but goes a bit deeper than a pimple.

What Causes Boils

Boils are caused by a bacterial infection. They develop when the hair follicles and the surrounding tissue become infected.

The infection kills the skin tissue inside the boil leading to the formation of a pus filled cavity also known as an abscess.

Other things that cause skin abscess include infected insect bites and injections with dirty or contaminated needles. Several boils can merge together to form a large bump called carbuncle.

Difference Between Boils and Abscesses

Most people use the terms a boil and an abscess interchangeably, thinking that they are synonymous. However, medically they are NOT exactly the same. For starters, a boil is a type of an abscess, but not every abscess is a boil.

Furthermore, abscesses can occur on any solid tissue such as the gums, tonsil, lungs, kidneys and the skin of course. So, basically, a boil is an abscess that occurs on the skin.

How to Use Essential Oils for Boils

The best way to use essential oils for treating boils and abscesses is topical application and hot compress.

Topical Application

First of all, clean the boil with warm water.

After cleaning, apply 1 drop of chamomile directly on the boil. If the boil has burst and is open, apply 1 drop of thyme and 1 drop of lavender (diluted in 2 drops of carrier oil) around the boil.

Hot Compress for Boils

To draw pus out of a boil add 1 drop of lavender and 1 drop of thyme to 1 teaspoon carrier oil and mix together. Add oil mixture to a hot compress and apply twice a day.

Apply the blend below after drawing out the pus.
