It can be quite disconcerting to awake one morning and look into the mirror only to find that you skin looks dull and dry and far from healthy. Of course dull dry skin doesn’t just occur on your face, but can occur anywhere on your body and knowing what to do about this condition can help you get your skin looking and feeling healthy once more. Here are what you should do to correct that dull dry skin.
Drink Plenty of Water Daily
Having healthy skin starts on the inside, and dry skin is often the result of dehydration. Even being slightly dehydrated can have a negative effect on your skin, so the first step in getting rid of that dull dry skin is to insure that you keep yourself hydrated.
What you eat can have a huge effect on the health of your skin. Choosing to eat a healthy diet of lean meat, vegetables, fruits and whole grains can help to keep your skin healthy as well. Including omega 3 fatty acids in your diet, can help to give you healthy glowing skin.
Avoid Skin Drying Facial Washes and Skin Care Products
One of the most important things you can do to eliminate dull dry skin is to avoid any skin care products that contain harsh chemicals or synthetic colors or fragrances as these ingredients have a drying effect on you skin and will leave it looking both dry and dull. Choose instead natural skin care products that will gently clean your skin and help it hold in moisturizer.
Monitor Your Water Temperature
When washing your face or showering, you should use warm not hot water as hot water will have a drying effect on your skin. After showering you should pat, not rub your skin dry and immediately add a light natural skin moisturizer.
In many cases skin becomes dull and gray looking because of the build up of dead skin cells. You need to remove these dead skin cells by gently exfoliating your skin. There are many products that are great for exfoliating your skin in a healthy manner from exfoliating sponges to home made exfoliates made from sugar and other ingredients found in your kitchen.
Exfoliating once a week will help to remove those dead skin cells leaving your skin looking less dull and healthier.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Depending on just how dry your skin is, you may need to moisturize your skin several times a day until it once again becomes healthy. Take care when choosing a moisturizer to ensure that it contains no drying ingredients and is readily absorbed by the skin. Once your skin becomes healthy again, then moisturizing once or twice a day should help keep it bright and healthy.
Include Adequate Sleep and Exercise as part of your Daily Regime
Dull and dry skin can also be due to lack of adequate sleep and exercise. Try to get a full 8 hours of sleep a day and make sure that you get at least 30 minutes of exercise three times a week. Not only does getting ample sleep and exercise help improve your immune system and keep your skin healthy, the sweating from your exercise will clean your pores.
Following these simple tips you should be able to see that dull dry skin disappear and be replaced by healthy glowing skin.
